The meeting on 4 February resolved to make some changes to improve benefits to Mmebers. A new Forum is being set up. It will be the job of the 'UKTA Forum' as it has been named, to develop a programme of work to implement with BINDT and to promote to the wider thermography community.
4 February 2009 Public Meeting - A New Focus for UKTA
A meeting was held in Northampton on Wednesday 4th February 2009 to discuss the future of the UK Thermography Association (UKTA).
The UK Thermography Association, founded in 1997, has achieved much in the promotion of high standards of thermography. It has developed a community of thermographers, run its own conference and joined with BINDT to present thermography at their conferences, produced codes of practice on innovative methods for building and electrical surveys and worked with Government Departments to get thermography mentioned in Building Regulations.
UKTA has always had an international membership with members in Ireland, France, Germany, Australia and the Far East. It has had close relationships with Associations in Europe and Worldwide and this has assisted in developing International Standards for thermography.
It is felt that the time is right to develop the UKTA into an international community for everyone involved or interested in the science and practice of thermography. The applications of infra-red thermography are quite diverse and not restricted to engineering and the built environment. It is already being used in healthcare, veterinary diagnosis and arboreal management. As the science of thermography and the capability of its instrumentation continue to develop we are likely to see more applications emerge.
The purpose of the new ‘thermography community’ is to create a dynamic and vibrant environment for scientists, engineers and practitioners to help them keep at the forefront of the science and practice of thermography. The new community will act as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and the dissemination of information through meetings, conferences, seminars, web and print publications.
There are opportunities over the next few months and years to guide the thermography industry to meet the needs of the people who use thermography and to make the best use of developments that are coming out of academic and research institutes.
We believe there is a great opportunity to advance the science and practice of thermography and it is important that as many interested parties as possible attend this meeting to help shape the future for the thermography community.

3 September 2008:
1. Working closely with members to meet their needs
2. Introduction of attainable Certification in Building Energy Efficiency Thermography
3. Establishing regional groups so members can meet more easily
4. Revitalising our application user groups
5. Working more closely with BINDT
6. Working more closely with Association of European Thermographers
7. Organising a Thermography Conference 2-4 April 2009 at Oxford
12 June 2008 New Committee elected at AGM
The AGM elected the following new Management Committee:
Colin Pearson (Chairman)
Stewart Little (Vice Chairman)
Richard Wallace
David Blain and
Kevin Howell (Medical) .
19 January 2008 New DRAFT Electrical Code of Practice
A draft Code of Practice has been placed on this site for comment. CP 304 Electrical Thermography - Safe Boundary
26 April 2007 New International Standards proposed
The following new work
item proposals for the ISO Technical Committee Subcommittee 8, Thermography, TC135/SC8 have been circulated for voting:
• Standard guide for examining electrical installations with infrared
thermography (WEE/46_07_0083)
• Infrared thermography in nondestructive testing – Characters of
equipment and system (WEE/46_07_0084)
• Standard terminology for infrared thermography in nondestructive testing
(WEE/46_07_0085)
• Standard guide of non-destructive testing with infrared thermography
(WEE/46_07-0086)
These would be extremely useful Standards for many UKTA members. UKTA will contribute to the drafting of these standards. Any members who wish to have a say should contact the ukta committee ukta@ukta.org
