Certification and accreditation
In the UK and worldwide clients have been asking for certification
of specialist personnel in all disciplines from building management
to fuel gas engineers. The condition monitoring industry
has been no exception. The UK Thermography Association
was set up in 1997 with the objective of increasing professionalism
in thermography. Considering the merits of certification
has always been high on its agenda. Recently this has come
to fruition with the development of a new International Standard,
ISO 18436, currently issued as a Committee Draft.
Recent surveys have shown clients and specialists in favour
of certification. 75% of UKTA members said they wanted
certification. In a Reliability.web survey in July 2000
of the 82% who had thermography certification, 96% thought it
had improved the quality of their work and 76% thought it had
improved their job prospects. COMADIT, The UK Condition
Management association, found over 60% of people in favour of
an accredited training programme.
